This Cookies Policy explains which cookies and similar browser technologies PitchDetector.com uses, why, and how you can control them. Read it together with our Privacy Policy, which covers all website data, and our Data Security & Audio Privacy page, which explains how microphone audio is handled.
In short: PitchDetector.com uses Google Analytics 4 cookies to measure how the site is used. Many of our tools save your settings, and a few save short result summaries, in your browser’s local storage on your own device. The tools set no cookies of their own, and no microphone audio is ever stored in cookies or browser storage. The site shows no ads, so there are no advertising cookies.
What cookies and browser storage are
A cookie is a small piece of text that a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage is a similar feature: it lets a page save small values in your browser, on your device, but those values are not sent to our server with each request. Both can be viewed and deleted in your browser settings.
Cookies and storage we use
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes one browser from another with a random ID, so visits can be counted. | 2 years by default |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps the state of the current visit (session). | 2 years by default |
Tool settings (local storage, keys such as pdp-settings-v2 or pct-settings-v1) | Our tools | Remember choices such as your A4 reference, tuning, sensitivity, note names, instrument, metronome tempo or microphone options. | Until you clear site data |
| Result summaries (local storage) | Some of our tools | Show your recent or best results on the same device (details below). | Until you clear them or the site data |
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4, added through Google’s Site Kit plugin for WordPress, to see which pages and tools people use, how visitors find the site and how pages perform. Google may process information such as pages viewed, referring page, browser and device type, approximate location and general interaction events. We use these reports to decide what to fix and improve.
Analytics does not receive microphone audio, audio files or your pitch readings. Because PitchDetector.com shows no ads, we do not use Analytics data to show you ads on this site. Google’s handling of this data is described in Google’s own privacy policy.
Settings and results saved by our tools
Most tools remember your settings so you do not have to set them again, for example the tuning reference in the Pitch Detector or the microphone options in the Mic Test. A few tools also keep short summaries of your results on your device:
- the Pitch Detector keeps your last 10 sessions (date, the source label such as “Microphone” or the audio file’s name, lowest and highest note, time in tune, duration and A4 reference);
- the Voice Hz Test keeps your last 20 results (date, mode, median pitch and spread);
- the Vocal Range Test keeps the widest range measured on your device, with its date;
- the Pitch Accuracy Checker, Perfect Pitch Test and Pitch Matching Game keep your best scores, and Interval Ear Training keeps your practice statistics.
These values stay in your browser. They are not sent to us or to Google, and we cannot see, export or delete them for you, but you can: some tools have a clear button, and clearing site data for pitchdetector.com removes them all. If your browser blocks storage (for example in some private windows), the tools still work; they just forget your settings when you leave.
Recordings are not stored
A few tools let you record a short take and play it back, such as the Mic Test’s five-second check and the takes in the Voice Pitch Analyzer. The recording is kept in the page’s memory only. It is not saved in cookies or local storage, not uploaded, and it is gone when you reload or close the page. If a tool offers a download button, the file is saved only where you choose to save it. How the tools analyse sound, and how we test them, is described on our methodology page.
Affiliate links to 30 Day Singer
Our singing-lesson guides, such as our 30 Day Singer review, contain affiliate links to a 14-day trial of the 30 Day Singer online course. We may earn a commission if you start a trial or subscription through one of these links, at no extra cost to you. Clicking such a link sets no cookie on PitchDetector.com: the link carries a referral code in its web address, and once you are on the 30 Day Singer website, that company may set its own cookies to credit the referral. Its own cookie and privacy policies apply there.
No advertising cookies
PitchDetector.com does not show display ads and does not use advertising or remarketing cookies. If we ever add ads, we will update this policy and our Privacy Policy before or when they go live.
How to control cookies and storage
- Use your browser settings to see, block or delete cookies and site data for pitchdetector.com. Clearing site data also resets tool settings and saved results.
- Use Google’s Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or a browser or extension that blocks analytics, to stop Google Analytics from measuring your visits.
- Use a private or incognito window, which usually deletes cookies and local storage when you close it.
Blocking cookies does not stop any of the free music tools from working.
Microphone permission is not a cookie
Microphone access is a permission that your browser controls. A tool asks for it only when you press Start, and you can allow, block or revoke it at any time in your browser’s site settings. Granting it does not create a cookie on our side.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the cookies or storage we use change, and revise the “Last updated” date at the top. The rules for using the site are in our Terms & Conditions.
